According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), workers in the following trades most frequently experience construction site injuries:

NIOSH reports that ironworkers nationwide suffer the highest rate of on-the-job fatal injuries — 75.6 deaths per 100,000 workers. One possible explanation for the high fatality rate is that ironworkers are frequently exposed to extreme heights and face a higher risk of fatal falls.

That’s also true for the second most deadly trade on NIOSH’s survey — roofers — who have a work-related fatality rate of 41.2 deaths per 100,000 workers. Welders and laborers have similar fatality rates at 39.9 and 38.4 per 100,000, respectively. Masons, carpenters and drywall installers had some of the lowest rates, at approximately seven deaths per 100,000 workers in each category.
